Medical Care in Austria

The healthcare system in Austria is of very good quality and is operated by medical staff who have often been trained abroad. Even in the most remote parts of the country, it is easy to find state hospitals and private hospitals, but these are available at much higher costs. Austria has important medical and hospital institutions which allow visitors to benefit from rapid treatment and care. All hospitals have an emergency and accident department for emergency care.
For European tourists or residents from a European Union Member State, basic care is provided free of charge in public hospitals. The response time of emergency services is often quick.

In case of medical emergency, call 144.
