Medical Care in Liberia

The health system in Liberia is one of the least effective in Africa due to a combination of dilapidated facilities, shortages of medicine, lack of medical staff, and old equipment. Monrovia is home to the St Joseph’s hospital, the most reputed in Liberia. Remember that all medical expenses must be paid in cash. In the event of a medical complication, you may have to be evacuated to another country with a more efficient medical system, such as South Africa. However, be aware that this is sometimes impossible due to a lack of efficient emergency transport.

You may dial 911 in case of an emergency.
