Medical Care in Suriname
Medical facilities in Suriname are unstable. You will be able to find four hospitals in Paramaribo and one in Nickerie. If you require routine care, the University Hospital of Paramaribo is sufficient, even if the quality of care does not meet international standards.
You will be able to find basic and specific medications in pharmacies.
Although emergency aid is non-existent in rural regions, you can call an ambulance on 113. However, be aware that these services are not reliable, and that it is often safer to use taxi or private care to get to the hospital. In Suriname, the paramedics will only be able to leave after they have received permission from the police. You may also contact 110 for helicopter emergency services.
