Medical Care in Fiji
In large cities, travellers are assured to find free and equal access to public health care. However, note that health care in certain islands is very limited, with insufficient equipment and medical staff who are not highly qualified. In the event of a serious medical injury or illness, evacuation to Australia, New Zealand or Belgium is necessary. The fees for this evacuation will be high, and therefore it is recommended to purchase medical insurance before you leave. MIOT Pacific Hospitals (formally Suva Pvt Hospitals) is one of the main hospitals in Fiji, and offers quality care and a decompression room for diving sickness. Suva also offers Lautoka Hospital and the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
In order to access a reliable pharmacy, you should go to the city of Nadi. However, be warned that you may not find some American and European medicines. It is best to have common medications on hand for treatment.
To call for emergency services, dial 911.
