Medical Care in Bulgaria

The Bulgarian health system has been working well in recent years, due to the significant improvement in its health care and emergency services. However, lack of facilities remains an unresolved issue, especially in rural areas. Non-hospital medical care is provided by private individuals or legal entities. Pirogov Public Hospital is the most important medical center in the country. In Bulgaria there is a large number of specialized private clinics, including the Vita Hospital . However, patients are required to pay the full cost of consultations or services in addition to health insurance.

In theory, most local pharmacies are well supplied, and provide good quality pharmaceuticals which comply with European standards.

In case of an emergency, dial 150 for ambulance services.

Only a passport is required to enter Bulgaria if you are visiting for less than 90 days. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of departure.
